Dependency Service or Group Failed

Hi CTH,
At first I couldn't connect to the internet. In the Network and Sharing Center it said, "The Dependency service or group failed to start". Then I attempted to reboot to see if that would correct the issue. I got a blue screen instead. I tried rebooting; it booted up this time. However, I had the following error messages: "Alps pointing device driver stopped" and "Apoint.exe corrupt file". I still can't connect to the internet. Where should I begin to correct my problems?

Thanks so much for your help,
Robvee

Start with a system file check. If any system files are corrupted that will fix it. However, with the Apoint being corrupted as well, it might be a bad HDD. not necessarily yet but just a possibility.

It repaired some of the files but not all. How do I repair the other files? I am running Vista 32 bit Home Premium sp2.

System File Checker fixed the "Dependency Service or Group Failed" issue but not the "Apoint.exe Corrupt File" issue. How do I fix this?

Go to control panel and either "Repair" it or reinstall that application.

Hi Jazz836062,
I apologize for taking so long to respond, but I didn't know what the Apoint.exe was and it wasn't listed in the Control Panel listing of programs. So, I used my Vista DVD to get a C prompt in the recovery environment. Then I ran CHKDSK. This seemed to fix my issues. However, one day after fixing my laptop we were using my laptop and got a blue screen. Is there anyway to scan my system to create a log for CTH to view to see what may still be wrong with my system?

If the bluescreen isn't reccuring it is going to be difficut to track down the cause. If it was just a single issue and you computer is fine now, you should bt good to go.
