PCI or USB
Just wondering what the general opinion was on these forums. Should I buy another PCI wireless adapter or a USB adapter?
What are the differences in performance etc? Thanks. |

IMHO. PCI adapters are better. Also, getting something with a detachable antenna is a good idea either way, especially if the antenna is coming out the back and the PC is up against a wall or something.

Any suggestions as to which PCI cards I should look into? My PC is one floor above the wireless router (Belkin54g router). Should I get another Belkin card or can I get a different brand without too much hassle?

the brand really should not matter.

As long as the Belkin router is a normal 54g all is well get any brand you like. If it has some sort of "speed boost" then you might want to stick with a belkin adapter made for speed boost.

Probably a stupid question but, if I get a 108Mbps wireless network card, will I need to upgrade my router also?

A 108Mbps card needs to be paired with a router that uses the same technology, in order to reach that speed. Mixed brands will not work, and you will need to purchase a new router, you cannot update router firmware to get 108Mbps support.
But your 108Mbps card will most definitely have support for 802.11b (11Mbps) and g (54Mbps) standards used by any wireless router, so you only have to replace the router if you want to use 108Mbps. |
