Question Can't format Linux

I cannot format my hard drive under linux. I have inserted several boot floppies and I get an error that the C: drive is an invalid media specification. I managed to get to the command prompt once with my Windows 98 boot floppy but it told me that the format c: and the fdisk were invalid commands. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,
AJ

P.S This is on my IBM laptop that can only have either the floppy drive or DVD drive in at a time.

If you are planning to reinstall linux, or install windows you can boot from a linux or windows cd and use there formating utility to install the OS

What are you planning on doing after you format?

Best Wishes

I was planning to use Windows 2000. I have tried reinstalling Linux and it dosent help. I have also tried using the install for Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Professional but none of them want to install either.

Hi there RSSlave
Take a look at this recent thread of Brownfan's - we went through pretty much the same exercise (and more)...

Thanks for your quick replies. I have gotten my Windows 98SE boot disk to install but all I get now is the Linux boot screen and it says it needs to be repaired. I attempt to ok the repair due to nothing except DOS working but I get a screen filled with the letter "y" down the left side and that is it. Any suggestions on what that is or how I can access the Windows 98 that "installed" on it?

Thanks again,
AJ

Just a quick update on my status.

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful. A special thanks to modmidget for recommending www.bootdisk.com That site helped me download a bootdisk that worked perfectly.

Many Thanks,
AJ
