EXTREMELY slow computer -- HJT log

Hello. I have been a member of Cybertechhelp for the last three years and I've found wonderful help here with a problem I had with my computer.

I have a friend who signed up with the username LPate. She's asked me to post her problem here so we can start looking for solutions before her activiation email arrives (her email provider seems to be abnormally slow).

She has a computer running XP Professional version 2002 with Service Pack 2, but it has been running EXTREMELY slowly lately.

I went ahead and ran HijackThis 2.0.2 and the logfile is posted below. I would be grateful for any help or suggestions you can offer and as soon as she can activate her account I will turn the issue over to her to continue to solve under her name of LPate.

Hello Evelyn Seim (and eventually LPate),

No outright infection showing here. You mention slow email, and this log show that Incredimail software installed, as well as an unusual Yahoo mail active desktop image. And I believe AVG scans all mail if set for that. So some email related info in just this one view. Let's get more details though and check further.

To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.

Download RSIT (random's system information tool) from here to your desktop, then click on the RSIT.exe to start the scan.

If necessary allow it to locate or download a copy of HijackThis as needed.

Once the scan completes a textbox will open - copy/paste those contents here for review please. The log can also be found at C:\rsit\log.txt.

RSIT will also create a second log, info.txt, which will be minimized to your taskbar. Post that here as well please (it will also be stored at C:\rsit\info.txt).

You can break logs into parts and use separate posts here when replying and posting the log files, if needed.

RSIT log Ia

Hi Jintan.

I guess I wasn't being clear enough. EVERYTHING on her computer is laggy. Starting up, selecting ANYTHING, first using a program, switching from application to application...it all lags horribly. My own desktop is seven years old with half the processor speed and RAM and my dinosaur runs faster than this machine.

Here's the first log file:

Nothing amiss in any of that. Check for temp storage log-jamming occurring there.

Go Here and download ATF Cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).

If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective. This will need to be run for each user there.

----------------------

And better we add a more in depth check as well.

Click here and download the installer for Gmer to your desktop, then click that file to run Gmer.

If on it's opening scan Gmer locates items shown in red or indicates "hidden" or "rootkit", stop there, and click on the Copy button and rightclick on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and rightclick again and choose Paste. Copy the information and post it here please. We don't want any crashes just from taking an initial look at things.

If not, then click on Scan (before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan).

When completed, click on the Copy button and rightclick on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and rightclick again and choose Paste. Copy the information and post it here please.

Mostly AVG's hidden net filtering functions. I don't read in your response that you did the Gmer Scan though, so if not please click Scan and follow the previous steps posted to post that log.
