Task bar won't stay locked!!!

Hi,

I have got a slight problem with my Sony Vaio laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium), I find at random times when I turn the laptop on the taskbar buttons are all grouped together on the right hand side of the taskbar, I right click on the task bar and it says that it is locked so I will then untick it and move the buttons back across to the left handside (so you can actually see what programmes you have got open on the taskbar buttons). This is how I want it to stay, the problem is, is it doesn't stay like this, it may be ok for a bit then, when I turn it back on and they are all back over to the right hand side again. I have been repeating the above to move them back across to the left but it is getting a bit annoying now!

Any advice on how to keep the taskbar/taskbar buttons locked would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks, JIO22

What kind of virus protection do you have running; ie: spybot, Avast, AVG, Norton, etc...?

Some have very high settings protection that it will change back settings you changed. Possible solution is to disable your protection then change your taskbar then re-enable your protection. See if that works.

I have got McAfee on here at the moment, I've had no other problems at all, just this glitch! It's worth looking at the settings in McAfee you think?

I have heard of McAfee doing things like that. Spybot should notify you, I have it and I haven't had any problems like that. Same with Malware bytes. I would temporarily disable McAfee and put the task bar how you like it then re-enable it.

See if that works and let us know.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but how do you temporarily disable McAfee once the laptop has started up?

Many Thanks, JIO22

I am not entirley sure but with most, just right click the McAfeeicon in the lower right corner and select disable. It could be something different though.

Hi,

I disabled McAfee + set the taskbar etc to how I wanted it, then re enabled McAfee. It seemed to do the trick........for about 3 days, then for no reason at all I turned the laptop on earlier today and they were all bunched together again on the right hand side!

Anymore ideas on how to sort this problem out, anyone?

Thanks, JIO22
