System keeps rebooting .. can not access safe mode ..

Hello and thank you to anyone who advises me on this ...

I have an emachines t3410 (not sure on anything else being i'm not able to get on pc ... using an older machine)

Everything worked fine (or so i thought) until the other day it shut off and then it continues to restart itself. I have tried f8 etc, but it won't go into bios.

I have the emachines system recovery cd and I am wondering if I need to use it?

Thanks for any help.

Nope, right forum. Sorry for the delay,

What were you doing when it "suddenly" shut off?
Were you installing a program or driver? Playing a game or just surfing the net? (the info might help narrow the cause)

Best guess from your description is a corrupted harddrive (preventing it from booting).

F8 brings up the windows boot menu. to get into the bios, turn the pc on, when you see the emachine logo, press DEL or F2. If that doesn't do it, hit the escape key when you see the emachine logo, (that shows the post info on the screen), at the bottom of the screen should be instructions for entering the bios (which key to hit).

when you get in look for an entry labeled boot sequence or boot options, select the entry and make sure the cdrom is set to boot first. (if you have trouble navigating in the bios, look at the bottom of the screen, there are instructions for navigating and changing settings) once you're done press F10 to save and exit. The pc should boot from the recovery disk. I'm not familiar with the way Compaq has their recovery disks set up, so if there is an option to 'repair" your windows installation without restoring the software to the way it was when it was shipped, select it. See if that fixes the issue without having to do a complete reinstall.

My apologies for not responding sooner ...

My son was on the net playing runescape when it happened..blue screen came on (he's 12, doesn't remember what it said ) and then it started rebooting. It goes to the windows screen, and then continually reboots over and over.

I've already had a new hard drive put in (had someone else do it). In fact, not too long ago.

Thank you for your help.

I finally got it to boot from cd .... but sadly, I had to do a complete restore.

But hey, my pc is working now.

Well, now I have wavy scrolling...

How can I find out if I have graphic card drivers installed???? Or where to go if I need one?

Thanks!!
