Transferring Files from Old Comp. to New Comp.

Hello, I hope this isn't a question you get often. If so, sorry!

My old laptop recently "broke," so I've had to buy a new one. However, the problem with the old one is that it doesn't have any battery power to turn on and I can't recharge it. Therefore, I can't turn it on and start saving files onto my jump drive or burning them onto a cd.

Every method I've read about in transferring files involved both computers turning on. Someone mentioned fleetingly about hooking up the hard drives and transferring that way, but I have no idea what s/he was talking about. Any help?

Thanks. Much appreciated!

Welcome

You need to hookup the old drive as a slave in the new PC.

I will move this to Hardware where you should get some more advice on this process.

If they are both laptops
thats a problem
my thoughts
get a 2.5" to 3.5" drive converter
take out the old Laptop HDD, remove from the caddy as well
now plug the converter to the old HDD, and set it to slave
Plug in the IDE cable on a desktop PC to the Converter
Now boot the desktop and copy all the files needed over
Then you could transfer those files via network or something to the new laptop
