2003 Won't boot, sptd.sys problem?

OK, so my server won't boot, not even in safe mode.....

When I try to boot in normal mode it lets me select 2003 or Recovery Console, as it should, and when I select 2003 it just goes to a black screen with no hard drive activity then after a minute the system reboots itself

When I boot in safe mode and select 2003, the last thing that comes up is ACPITABL.DAT and below it, it says "Press esc to stop loading SPTD.SYS" or something along those lines.... anyway, regardless of whether or not I press esc, it stops at that point, then reboots

I recently ungraded daemon tools on that machine to the latest version, and in my research SPTD.SYS causes alot of problems with that.

I have tried renaming SPTD.SYS to SPTD.SYS.OLD, and the problem persists

I have tried entering "disable sptd" in recovery console, the problem persists

I have done both of the above at once, and guess what, the problem persists

I have looked around and tried finding other fixes for SPTD.SYS and tried looking for other files and drivers related to daemon tools, and I got nothing

I have tested all hardware to be sure that is not the cause cause of this.

It is not a garuntee that SPTD,SYS is the problem, but it looks that way to me, any ideas?

Actually I figured it out, a failing IDE hard drive used for data was causing the problem......go figure

It was set up as a slave on the secondary IDE chain, not sure why that problem would cause the system to hang at that point during boot though, seems to be like that would cause the system to hang earlier during the boot process
