Right click the start button, select properties, select "start menu" then click the advanced button to personalize your start menu. When you're done click apply and you will have the XP style menu back.

MaDef: Thank you for your reply, but it does not work as when I go into properties
I get a window with two tabs, Taskbar and Start and under Start is: a bullet, "Classic Start Menu, Select this option to use the menu style from earllier versions of Windows" and on right a box with 'Customize' in it and ok and/or Cancel.. If I go into Customize
I am in a window titled 'Customize Classic Start' . Any ideas?

There should be 2 options, (I've never seen it with just the one). One is labeled "start menu" and below that is one labeled "classic start menu". You need to select the "start menu" option. Then click the customize button to the right, then you can use the advanced tab.

MaDef, thanks again, however after properties my display has two tabs also, one is taskbar and one is Start Menu, on the Start Menu under the picture of the monitor is this bullet with a dot in the middle (meaning it is chosen) and Next to it it says Dlassic Start menu Select this option to use the menu style from earlier versios of Windows and
the circle with the dot is my fault I guess because I chose the classic view, (which I am still trying to get id of. If I hit customize the next screen does not give me the option of
deleting the Classic View????????

You are right, it does look like that, except the picture on top shows two rows of programs and underneath just Classic Start menu and it has the circle w/dot already
in it. (as if I chose it!) Customize is exactly the same also. ????
WHat I want is for my Start Menu to look like the picture on top looks..........

Right click the start button (by log off), select properties, select "start menu" then click the advanced button to personalize your start menu. When you're done click apply and you will have the XP style menu back. Apply and OK.

Go here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Go to line 31..........on right, Disable changes made to Start Menu.

"To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit."
There is an Undo beside it if it doesn't work.
