John, when I originally posted in this thread, it had nothing to do with whether using such programs is a good thing or bad, all it had to do with, was someone's great way of "welcoming" a new member to CTH....

You should delete them (Check backup until you see things are fine) and you will see nothing happens... I love regseeker!!!!! (When I first got it and 850 were found I deleted them all and it was fine)

I run it almost everyday (Currently my registry is 994k (system.dat))

??? I just took a fair bit of time and effort to point out that they were system damaging. Not green, system damaging. Removal of them screws things up. Guess you are not getting the point here. With RegSeeker, and all other reg cleaning garbage, "Green" means "I have no idea what I am doing, and will now trash your system".

And the Registry is not a system.dat file (which is very, very meaningless what it's file size is, and changes as changes occur to things). The Registry is comprised of very large "hive" files stored elsewhere on your computer. I won't tell you where, cause you would likely have RegSeeker try to delete them.

But I have come to a revelation.

Be aware that there is an AshleyP who is featured on SFS as a known spammer, of course I have no way of knowing if it is the same person or not.

I'm sure you'll point out that I don't know this, but with such a post, there is a chance that their posts here was not a friendly comment rather it was a subtle attempt at spamming.

So your reply to AshleyP was the right thing to do, what about the several previous replies that state such programs are good, weren't they "spamming" too? It isn't "our" duty to point out things like this. We can let the Moderators here decide what to do, and deal with such matters, that's why they get paid the big bucks!

SFS? There's no need for me to point out anything, you've done that for yourself. But I don't know why it is you keep saying about the post being spam. it was just an opinion, don't "spammers" always add links to whatever they're "spamming"?

Links are not always added these days, many just mention a product name if it is unique, and an endorsement of that product, so that it will be picked up by a search engine crawler, with the result that the site for that product gets promoted in search results.

Hey everyone,

I've been using CCleaner for several years now, and have not had any serious problems, till Avast went and bought them.

Now a days, registry cleaning isn't needed.
Unless your still running a HDD and NOT a SSD.
Well, I still am running a HDD. {Because I'm cheap.}

Thus, I found that cleaning the Reg & de-fragmenting it helped in the boot up speed of Windows 7.
I also de-fragment the HDD after I cleaned out all the old drivers that were piling up after a year of monthly or weekly driver up dates.

Note: I kept one or two old version drivers back from the current one, in case there was an issue.
I also kept the most recent two System Restore Points just in case too.

So, for us old timers who are still running older systems and are looking for a replacement for CCleaner.

Yep, know what you mean. For general mass storage, you can't beat the price per GB of spinners. For snappy performance though, you gotta pay to play.

Hmmm..........

Having a SSD isn't always necessary.

Unless your running some of the latest games that want as much Memory possible.
The fastest CPU, and the highest end Graphics Card as well.

You can get by with 16 GB of Memory, a mid range CPU, and mid level Graphics Card.
Plus, a 1TB 7200RPM 16MB Cache HDD.

Another factor is the Motherboard buss speed.
Even if you get a fast SSD, your MB might not be able to be setup too get the fastest speeds out of the drive.

• Because of an old SATA driver controller.

• The Speed of the Memory will dictate how fast the buss speed will be.

Well, this is a rabbit hole that can get rather deep.
