Start Up Menu and system restore

I would like to eliminate some of the start up so my desktop will load quicker. How do I do this? Also when I was ridding my system from the Downloader.Rameh.A trojan, I attempted to shut off the system restore and turn it back on. When I clicked on the My Computer/Properties/System Restore I got an error message... "Run dll. as an app has encountered an error and has to shut down." How can I correct this for future problems? The following is the signature error that I get and the current Hijack this log.

The signature error that appears with this message is as follows:

AppName: runndll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.0 ModName:srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1142 Offset: 00009765

Hi cryscross11 - it sounds as though you have a corrupted file. Go to Start > Run and type:

sfc /scannow

and OK. Your system will be scanned and any corrupted files should be replaced (you may need your XP CD so have it handy). Reboot afterwards.

Transferring to the WinXP Forum.
