Question winoldap not responding??

I have recently installed a new hard drive and decided to install win98se freshly on the new drive. BUT, something seems to be missing. I have gotten all caught up with windows updates and recently installed sbc dsl. the PROBLEM is that when certain programs run, they stop responding. ctrl+alt+del reveals that "winoldap" has stopped responding. I end task and all is good. I was told this may be a ms-dos driver of some sort. I have updated all drivers and I still get this. How can I fix it??

Hi cyber lost - welcome to CTH. It might help if we can see what's running on your PC. Go here and download and run Startup List. It will generate a log file. Copy the log and paste it back into this thread.

I tried the startuplist you suggested but it wont run because it is missing a .dll file. MSVBVM60.dll and I cant find that file anywhere. Im a total mess. ha ha

Hi cyber lost - you have a couple of programs running which could cause the problem. McAfee is one, Zone Alarm is another and this file MSGLOOP.EXE has also been known to cause problems ( it's a background program which gets installed with the drivers for older sound cards based on the Crystal chipset (eg. Adlib Audio, Aztech, Acer). Description : A WaveStream component which is provided to hook up with the Brooktree WaveStream CD, also called the "Brooktree WaveStream Message Server". This background program is also present in the drivers for more modern sound cards but in this case MSGLOOP.EXE is called the "Conexant WaveStream Message Server").

Try a clean boot and see if you can isolate the culprit. Information on how to do this here. Let us know how you get on.
