In your eyes....

OK, this is driving me nuts.

In the live version of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" (recorded on the 'Secret World' CD), there's some lyrics sung in Afrikaans. Or something.
Anyway, I've been trying to find out what those lyrics are. And can't. Any help from you smart folks??

All I could find was a translation with the backup lyrics sung by Youssou N'Dour

Accepting all I've done and said
I want to stand and stare again
'Til there's nothing left out, oh whoa whoa
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
And I will touch this tender wall
'Til I know I'm home again, oh

(In your eyes) In your eyes
(In your eyes) In your eyes
(In your eyes) In your eyes

Love, I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go, I come back to the place you are

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes, the light, the heat
In your eyes I am complete
In your eyes, the resolution
Of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes, I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes, the light, the heat
In your eyes I am complete
In your eyes I see the doorway
To a thousand churches
In your eyes, the resolution
Of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes, I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Accepting all I've done and said
I want to stand and stare again
'Til there's nothing left out, oh whoa whoa
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
Oh, it's in your eyes

In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

I want to stand and stare again
Oh, it's in your eyes

Thanks!

So while Mr. N'Dour, Peter, and Paula Cole are singing in - Martian, is it?? - I just have to guess? Or are they repeating in Vulcan what was just sung in English? I don't get it. Explain it to me s l o w l y, and in big letters.

All I could figure out is that Youssou N'Dour was singing backup lyrics in some kind of African dialect and that was the translation of the whole extended song, backup lyrics and all.

Beats me. :cheesy:

Mary, you ROCK!:rocker: :thumb: :rocker:

Um, I mean "thanks".

Those lyrics are what P. Gabriel sings. Paula Cole adds some cool-sounding wails. And Brother Youssou, well, he sings like a chicken - a real cool chicken - in that Afrikaans dialect. Just what he says is what has me stumped.

It's a good thing I don't do this for money. I'd have starved to death long ago....................................

Thanks Eric, but those lyrics - as Mawil posted - are everywhere on the web. It's been a popular tune. What's killing me are the foreign-sounding lyrics sung on the live version of the song (recorded in Italy, I think).

Perhaps it's Flemish? Anyone around here speak Flemish??

Zip, just about everything I have ever read refer to Youssou N'Dour's "vocalisations" rather than specific lyrics.
If he is singing specific lyrics, it will be in Senegalese.
NB, he is on the original track recording on the Album "So" (which I bought when it was released in 1986) as well, I've now been driving the family wild listening to the end of the song a few times to see if I can pick up any specific word to hit with Google but no joy.
Seeing how P.G is notorious for some of his "gobbledy-gook" lyrics, it could very well just be Monsieur N'Dour's interpretations of the English lyrics.

p.s. If you want to tingle your spine, try listening to Biko on P.G's "Plays Live".

AHA!! So it's Senegalese gibberish. That was my first thought, too

Update: My daughter swears that one of the "extra" lines that Peter sings is
"Chicken coop from another world,
Chicken coop from another world....."

Who knows? She just might be right.........

Nope.

It's 'chicken coop on another farm,
chicken coop on another farm,......

Now that makes more sense...........................
