Windows 98 Problem solving for the Windows 98 Operating System

Windows 98 Missing System.ini wont start!

When i go to boot up my computer it says missing file SYSTEM.ini and VGARTD.vxd and then it gives me options to start, bu no matter how i choose it shuts down on me automatically. any suggestions on what to do?

Try a Registry restore:

Boot from a win98 boot floppy.

Or Boot, press and hold the 'CTRL' key to enter the boot menu. Select the 'COMMAND PROMPT ONLY' option and press enter.

At the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and press enter.

When the screen appears select a backup before this problem occurred. Finish out the backup process and then reboot.
