Hi yqyeoh

Welcome to CTH

The usual way to ban access from a wireless network is to block the MAC address. This is specific to the machine that is trying to access the network, while the IP address could be changed.

The MAC address is blocked in the wireless router. You will need to open the configuration page for the router.

If you are not using a wireless router, you may have a problem.

Some details here will help someone put you on the right track. BF

Hey yqyeoh

As BigFred said, you can block an specific MAC address in your router web
access setting program.
Another way is to set your network to work with specific IP address and allocate a specific IP address to each computer.

Good Luck

BigFred and SimpleJohn, good info. I just want to point out filtering on MAC or IP can be easily worked around. It is pretty trivial to change a PCs MAC address or IP address. You are best off just allowing the MAC addresses you want to have access. That way for someone else to gain access to WLAN from an unauthorized computer they need to figure out what MACs you have authorized. That is the hard part for someone hacking into the WLAN.

In addition to keeping people off the WLAN, WEP/WPA also keeps people from seeing what you are transmitting over the WLAN. Even if you set up a MAC or IP filter, someone can still capture everything you send and receive over the WLAN. That is why WEP/WPA is important.
