slow internet loading

I need help, please. The computer I am currently using (my friend's) runs fine now that I have gotten rid of all the viruses and spyware. The problem I am having is that when I click on the "e" to get online, it takes approximately 24 seconds to load the page (I counted). I am using DSL so dial-up is not the problem. This is what I have done so far: Run LSP Fix (nothing wrong there), run CWShredder (no problems), run Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, two different antiviruses (RAVonline and Norton), and I did a free online trojan scan. Oh, and I made sure all updates were current (Windows and Norton). I looked through every post I could find that I thought might relate to my problem. I am at a loss as to what to do. If it will help, I will post the HJT log.

She doesn't use Messenger and I have disabled it through "Shoot the Messenger" and removed it from Add/Remove Windows Components. I notice that there is an entry there for msmsgs.exe, though. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Hi Kelly,
Try this. Click Start > Settings > Network Connections.
Right click on your connection and choose 'Repair'.

Thanks, Tom. I didn't think of that. However, when I did a repair this is the message that I got:

The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Purging the DNS Resolver Cache

What do I do now? I appreciate your help and so does Meggan.

Okay, I went to a command prompt and typed ipconfig /flushdns and it said it was successful, but when I tried to do another repair on the connection I got the same message as before. Any ideas?

Hi Kelly,
Click Start > Run > type services.msc and click OK.
Scroll down and double click on 'DNS Client'. Start the service.
Try the repair again.

Hi Tom. I went to the services and checked the dns service. It was already started so I stopped it and restarted it. I then rebooted and tried a new repair. I got the same message. Any more ideas? Thanks!
