Do not get the "OK to turn off your machine" screen

Since I have moved from Win95 to Win98 I have been unable to restart in DOS or do I get the OK to turn off your machine screen when shutting down. Any ideas.

What version of windows is it? 1st edition or 2nd? If it's the 2nd version there is a shut down patch that you need. When you shut down win98se it should say something like "It is now safe to turn off your computer", or something like that. If it doesn't you need the patch.

If you want to boot into DOS you need to be tapping on or holding down the F8 Key right when it says "Starting Windows" to get a menu to choose from. If the Splash screen is in your way it's probably too late to get the menu. You'll need to try again.

Just a note re: DOS in Windows 98

The command prompt in Windows 98 is not really DOS but rather Windows operating in text mode. Some of the usual DOS commands are available and behave as expected but others are unavailable or do not work quite as expected.
