Folder "view" ICONS won't stay ...

Hello,

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop and am trying to get used the the newances in Windows XP Pro. I have four folders on my desktop. I want to view the contents of those folders as "icons." However, these settings will not stay permanent.

Does anyone know how to keep the folder view settings?

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura

Give this a try;

Go to Windows Explorer.

Select View (select how you want ).

Then Select Tools; Folder Options...
Click on "view" tab and selct "Apply to All Folders". Click OK.

That should fix your problem.

Hi tweaker...

Will this make "ALL" folders display the "icon" listing?

I just have 4 folders on my "desktop" that I want to apply this setting to. All the remaining folders in c:\..... I want to show the "Details" setting.

Is that possible?

Laura

Hi Laura

I don't believe you can single out certain folders, but I could be wrong. But I believe the settings would apply to all folders.

You are able to do exactly what you are talking about, just follow these steps:

To make all folders the "detail view" first:
1. Go to My Computer, make sure it's in detail view, then click tools, folder options.
2. Go to the "view" tab, click "apply to all folders".
3. Now go down to the bottom in the advanced settings box, scroll to the bottom and make sure "remember each folder's view settings" is checked.
4. Close that out and go to each folder you want the icons to show in, and change each individually.
5. Now all the folders on the computer will be detail view except those ones.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.
