svchost.exe using too many resources + other problems
So lately (as in, the last day or two) I've been noticing a major slowdown on my computer that apparently is caused by svchost.exe (one of a few instances of it in my processes, and it's a system process) eating up all of my CPU usage. I Googled a bit, but most of what's out there is about the Blaster worm, which I don't think I have (my computer came installed with SP2, which is patched against Blaster, and I ran the Symantec removal tool and it said I don't have it). The bad svchost.exe starts up with the computer and, when I try to close it, doesn't try shutting down the system (like the other instances of svchost.exe do, because of the RPC protocols), but it does come back once or twice.
Another problem associated with this is that a couple of minutes after I close the bad svchost, my start bar flickers a bit between the new style (with the blue bar, green start button, etc.) and the classic style (with the gray bar and start button) before going back to the new style, and then a few minutes after, it switches to the classic style for good and I'm not sure how to fix it without a restart (which does the trick). Also, when I try to update the time by synchronizing with the time.gov server, I keep getting an error saying "An error occured getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable." svchost.exe is connected with the RPC so I'm figuring this is part of the same problem. One more thing that's happening is that when I start to type things, randomly (generally once every few letters, but it's better sometimes) the cursor will be put a letter before what I just typed, so that the last letter I typed gets pushed to the end and everything I type afterwards comes before it. So "Hello, my name is Adam." becomes "Helo,myname is Adam l." or "Hello, y nameisAdam m." I think the problem started roughly around the time I started the Trend Micro online scan (which is still running), so I hope that the weird typing is just part of the scan, but I figured I'd put that out there anyway... Thanks! Edit: I've restarted Firefox after HouseCall finished (actually, it stalled so I had to restart that, too) and the typing problem seems to be gone, so I guess scratch that off the list

Try to keep your mind off RPC and Blaster, and also best if you don't kill any running processes without knowing their uses. Could just be a need to perhaps update some of those Google software items you have or similar issue, but let's take some different looks before you consider asking for info at our Internet/Browsers forum.
Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. And Open HijackThis again. Click Config - Misc Tools. Then check "List also minor sections (full)" and also check "List empty sections (complete)" and then click on "Generate Startup List Log" Copy the log and post it back in this thread. It will be a large logfile. You can use separate posts here if needed.
