Please help - Adobe run prgrams won't open and websites close when I try to open them
Hello all:
I am new to this forum, but have received expert assistance in the past in your Cyber Safety forum. My CPU is giving me some real headaches - I am unable to open any files that require Adobe Acrobat - Initially, I had version 6.0 and nothing seemed to be wrond, but one day I was unable to open Adobe files anymore. Basically, I get a Windows error message telling me to end the program. I tried uninstalling Adobe and re-installed version 7.0. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem and am unable to view Adobe files. Additionally, I have trouble viewing particular internet sites at all. The one site that sticks out in my mind is Hotels.com. For whatever reason, whenever I try accessing that particular site, my browser simply shuts down. This happens everytime that I try to access the site. I am not very computer literate, so please speak in layman's terms when you respond. I have run HiJackThis and continue to run AdAwareSE on a consistent basis - I'm not sure if these programs are relevant to my questions, but I have attached a copy of my HiJackThis log, which follows: Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 11:35:34 AM, on 4/18/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\Program Files\eMachines Bay Reader\shwiconem.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\acsd.exe C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\ALCWZRD.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_FATI9 AA.EXE C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\New Boundary\PrismXL\PRISMXL.SYS C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\launchpd.exe C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\ATISched.EXE C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\RemCtrl\ATIX10.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\ATIDtct.EXE C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe C:\Program Files\BigFix\BigFix.exe C:\Program Files\NETGEAR WG311v2 Adapter\wlancfg5.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\HiJackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - Degs:
I have used the Cyber Safety forum in the past to help remove some trojans from my laptop. They did give me a clean bill of health, but I am writing today regarding my Desktop, which I have not sought any help in the past for. I hope that helps clear up some of the confusion. Cheers, Andy |

I would recommend that you post a new HJT log in the Cyber Safety forum
http://degs.cybertechhelp.com/files/hijackthis.exe Try uninstalling Acrobat, then run a Registry cleaner such as Regclean or Ace Utilities Then try installing version 6 from the Adobe site. Also try updating Java http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp |
