Exclamation Upgrade from XP To Vista

ok my pc has all the stuff for becoming a windows vista premium one. However the only problem is my hardisk size and free space. I have 2 hard drives one which is 18.6 and the other which is 9.53 GB. My c is on the first one and d is on the other one. 2 primary partitions. On c 10gb is free and on D 8gb is free. That totals to 18GB but when i do the test for vista. It fails always on the hard drive part. According to vista it should be 20Gb harddisk and free 15gb.

So according to this is my pc capable for vista? How is the requirement of harddisk taken?

Howdy:

It only reads the master hdd.. In your case, you only have 10GB free which is way to small for Vista as the os does NOT split itself over two harddrives!!

You would have to wipe your c: drive empty for Vista to fit..

Because that's what the system requires to install..

If you want to know the particulars, contact Microsoft !!

I found this explanation:

"That 15GB requirement is a reflection of how the new staged setup program for Windows Vista works. Vista’s predecessors, including Windows XP, perform a file-by-file setup. The staged installation copies a disk image containing a full, ready-to-run installation of Windows Vista, installs drivers for your hardware, migrates your data, and finally cleans up after itself."
