Usb wifi adapter, wont install?
Hello, I am trying to install the drivers and such for the NETGEAR WPN111 Adapter. When I run through the installation it says:
component: xp File Group: Ntdrv File: C:\windows\system32\drivers Error: Cannot Create a file when it already exists. So I ignored that and just followed along with the instructions and plugged in the hardware. I ran though the directions and said to install from a cd when it prompted what to do with the new hardware device. it came up with errors I cant remember what though... I try to go through the process again but when I insert the hardware instead of the normal chime it just plays 3 beeps. then nothing. what can I do? I am running XP Home. |

Try these drivers --- > http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d102794.asp
Remove any references [to that device] in Device Manager first. |

I was already told to do that, and still I get the same error.

Do you have Universal Serial Bus controllers listed in Device Manager?
The error report may help, can you copy the error(s) word-4-word and post it here? |

Like I said it wouldnt let me go back to the found new hardware thing. so i needed to do a system restore to before i tried to install it. In the instructions it says dont plug in the usb adapter until you have installed the drivers and utilities. but it I would get that XP error when i tried to do that.
here is the message when i put in the usb thing. "an error occurred while copying athwpn.sys cannot copy file to destination directory click retry to retry operation or click cancel." the same message comes up again if I try to continue except it says it cannot copy ar55523.bin |

What happens when you type assoc .vbs in a Command Prompt? You should get .vbs=VBSFile
(a space between c and .v in assoc .vbs) |

ftype VBSFile in a Command Prompt? You should get VBSFile=%SystemRoot%\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*
but your probably getting a link to Notepad. |

I don't know if you run a viruc checker program, malware monitors, or firewalls but disable them
if you do to test running the *.vbs script. You should try reinstalling the Windows Installer 3.1 v.2 |

I installed the windows installer thing and then tried the usb wifi adapter set up.. and it worked, but there was traces of it on there from before, so i needed to get rid of it for it to work. I did a system restore adn installed everything again, except when i got to the driver, i got the same problem again.. so close..
