I have a bridge near New York I'd like to sell you, the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sorry, but it is physically impossible to fit all the data that a DVD holds, about 4,370 MB's onto a CD that holds ~700 MB's.

There have been recent advances that allow certain CDRW's to store twice the data on a CD, called HD. But, it requires a specific burner, and can't be played back on a standard CD, or DVD player. Just look at their FAQ

(A little of topic for this forum.) This software is using lossy compresion (ie. Divx) to squeeze the data onto a VCD (Video CD) that will play in "most" DVD players. You can do the same thing yourself using free tools like Xvid, TMPGEnc, or CloneDVD.

I'm not saying it's easy, but it can be done.

There's also the issue of copyright infringement. The security key protecting DVD from being copied was broken long ago. Some companies are selling software that will copy DVD's for backup purposes. Meaning, if you own the movie, you can make a backup copy for personal use only. However, since DMCA this seems to be a very grey area, and is likely to soon be decided in the courts.
