Wink Way to change os registration-owner

Hi all, just got a new lapper, a Toshiba A105 Satellite model and have loaded all my app software. I noticed tha each time I installed a software piece that a name appeared(the sellers) which I had to change. Is there a way to register my name as the computer owner?? I know that it may be only a minor "problem" but I have loaded all my apps and really do not want to run the restore discs, to correct it,as all my apps and disk partitioning will go by by.

Any help will be sincerely appreciated.

To do this you need to edit your registry and you should only do this if you are confident at doing so: and I'm sure with 383 posts on here you are just a word of warning for others

1/ Click the Start Button

2/ From the Start menu click Run

3/ In the Run dialog box type: regedit

4/ The Registry editor will now open

5/ Navigate to the following key: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrent Version

6/ Once you have reached the Current Version key take a look in the Right Hand Pane and look for 'Registered Owner'

7/ right click on “Registered Owner” once and select “Modify” type your name

8/ Above it you will see “Registered Organisation” Do the same if you wish to change this too

Hope this helps

I think you can also change it through a program called RegScrubXP.

I followed the reg change without any problems. However the company name still appears on a folder in the windows explorer view. When I attempt to modify the folder name I get a statement that "the file is a system file" and it cannot be renamed or moved as Windows needs the item to run properly? Can this be changed?

Howdy:

The name was setup during the os install and can only be changed there with a re-install..

I installed the software, but have not used it yet, still playing around with it - Thanks for the heads-up.
