Computers can be finicky about booting from USB's. You have a copy of the ISO there?

Download and install CDBurnerXP. Next, put a blank DVD in the drive, cancel whatever your computer might offer for the DVD, then open CDBurnerXP. Click "Burn ISO image", then click OK. Next to the "Select ISO image to burn" box, click the Browse button and click on the ISO image you downloaded, then click "Burn disc".

It will tell you when it is done. Then try to boot from the CD-ROM using the disk.

I made a windows boot disk from the ISO I got from Microsoft and it came up. Do I want to install win 10 or repair disk? Which would repair the error "There was a problem" when restore to factory stopped at 62%?

my options are Start up repair, command prompt, system restore, uninstall updates, and system image recovery. Problem with all these choices I would need a password and she still doesn't remember it. That's why I'm trying to do the restore to factory.
I was thinking maybe if I reinstall windows it might repair what was causing the factory to stop at 62%. What do you think?

I'd go for the fresh install of Windows, hoping it steps all over this Acer explore issue.

If I had enough money I would throw this piece of **** in the garbage and just go buy her a new laptop grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Ok as far as installing windows it gives me 4 options and then tells me I can't install on any of the four.
First type: system 100MB 47MB free space Windows cannot be installed to this disk space. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Windows must be installed to a partition formated NTFS This partition is an EFI system partition (ESP)

Second type: MSR 16MB 16MB free space.Windows can't be installed to this disk space. This partition is an Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition.

Third Type: Primary 28.5G 12.9G free space.Windows can't be installed to this selected disk space. This is of the GPT partition style.

Fourth Type: Recovery 500MB 197MB free space.Windows can't be installed to this space. The partition is a Microsoft Recovery partition.

This is going to send me to the funny farm.

I'm going to change it back to the [UEFI] mode and see if I have any better luck now that I have a bootable disk. Wish me luck

You're supposed to delete all partitions to make the disk all unallocated space, then install Windows.

kuzzz, your problem is rare and seems complicated.

Welcome to CTH Vdieng. No need for any other fixit forums.

Kuzzz, you have a Windows disk now so have zero use for the recovery partition, which hasn't done you much good anyway.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to back off this for a while it's driving me batty. I'm hoping she can find where she wrote down her password then I'll tackle it again.
