windows 10 HP pc will not sleep or screensaver

Hello I have a windows 10 HP pc. I got it from my son and first thing I did was reinstall windows fresh from the BACKUP IMAGE. Problem is that it will not go to sleep even though power settings are set for it to do so. Also it will not go into screen saver either. Nothing is installed that should hinder this only installed Office 365, itunes and firefox web browser. all updates are up to date. screen saver is selected as well set to go on at 10 minutes. No usb items installed other than the keyboard and mouse. Any ideas? THANKS

Howdy dj,

I missed this post. Do you still need help solving this? I kind of think something's just running in the background and keeping it busy.

was the back image from that computer or another. also, after reinstalling, did you go to hp's website and get the latest drivers for that specific computer model from there.

The image was on that computer on the recovery partition. I did not visit hp for updates drivers though since everything appeared working. I will try that now. Thanks

I was thinking that often a startup that doesn't complete its startup process, will cause issues like this. So sure do the HP updates, but if that isn't the solution, we'll talk about selectively disabling startups, that may identify a culprit.

First off, set your Screen Saver to one minute and yank those usb devices. Just to eliminate them as a cause. No Screen Saver kicks in, plug them back in.

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and open Task Manager. May have to hit More details to see a full display. Click the Startup tab. Uncheck half the items listed, then restart the computer. No change in things sleeping, open Task Manager again, recheck the disabled ones and uncheck the rest. Restart again, and check again. If one of the groups does make the right changes, then one by one disable them from starting and restart and recheck. Just a process of elimination.

Deactivated touch and still having issue. I think I’m gonna give up and just manually click the sleep when I’m done using pc. I appreciate the help.

Flawed recovery image maybe? I've run into some.

If you would, even though you might bail on the repair, could you post back the model number please? I'd like to take a look around on the subject.
