Outlook Opening on Startup

Hi, everyone.

I'm running Windows 10 Home on an ASUS F556U laptop that I bought new a bit over a year ago. Just yesterday it began opening Microsoft Outlook on startup. I never use Outlook. I checked my startup folder and it's not there. This is a mild inconvenience, but it shouldn't be happening. I sure would appreciate help in figuring out why it is and what to do about it.

I don't have questionable usage habits. I don't do warez, crackz or even porn or gambling. My online life is just generic browsing and playing Steam games lke Star Trek Online, so no high risk behavior.

Let's make sure we are talking about the same Outlook. Microsoft has a history of causing confusion with different programs having very similar names.

Microsoft Outlook is an email "client" program and is generally included as one the main programs in the Microsoft Office suite, along with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more - although it can be "purchased" and installed separately. If you did not purchase it, Office might have been included with your computer, but those are typically trial versions, that I would not expect to last over a year.

Outlook.com is a free web based mail program, a successor to Hotmail.

To make matters worse, Windows 10 has a new email program called Mail. It includes a Calendar function and on the left panel of the calendar, it has a large section named, "Outlook".

So if Dan's suggestion does not help, see if can identify the exact program that is starting.

Thank you for your attention, Renegade 600 and Digerati.

Renegade, it's not in my startup folder in Task Manager. I may not have been clear enough about that in my original post.

Digerati, I did not purchase Outlook because I've never used it in my life. I didn't purchase Office because I don't use that either, but the computer came with Microsoft Office 2016 tools.

When the computer starts, several apps start before Outlook. F.lux is the first, followed by the Steam client. Then tonight I saw a quick flash of a Microsoft Office window, then the Outlook welcome window that asks me to add an account. The Details tab of Task Manager shows Outlook.exe running, along with OfficeClickToRun.exe (which I would never use, either. I don't use Office.)

I sure am grateful for the attention, even though work kept me from responding as promptly as I wanted.

Task Manager does not have a Startup folder.

Did you access Task Manager as noted in that link? You can also access it by pressing Ctrl Alt Del, then clicking on Task Manager. Then you click on the Startup tab to see what is listed. And from there, you can click to highlight an item, and click Disable in the lower right corner.

If you go into your Control Panel to Programs and Features, is Office listed?

I am not really familiar with the Office versions that come pre-installed on factory made systems, but I would think if don't want it, you could just uninstall it from Control Panel.

Perhaps Dan or someone else familiar can shed some light - and warnings if necessary.

Digerati, thanks for your patient, consistent attention, but Outlook isn't among the apps shown in the control panel. It shows Life is strange (a game), Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft OneDrive, and then various iterations of Microsoft Visual C++.

This is why I'm stumped...

Sorry, I did not mean to suggest you would see "Outlook" itself listed. But rather "Office" would be since Outlook is part of the Office 365 suite. You probably don't see Word or Excel listed individually either, since they too are part of the Office suite.
