Why is Startup Settings Missing From RE

Why is Startup settings missing from Recovery Environment

I have a laptop that wont boot because I suspect the owner has been installing loads of crap - maybe even 2 antiviruses.

I am booting from a wins 10 dvd and am wanting Startup settings with the view for choosing Safe Mode or Disable Antivirus settings on startup etc

All the rest seem to be there - - Choose a device - troubleshooting - Startup repair - system restore

All of which fail to remedy the problem

Normal boot just reveals a blank screen

Startup settings did not show, as I think what I was seeing was from the DVD and not hard disk

Anyway - it is now sorted :

I reckon the RE I was in was from the dvd, so typing bcdedit /set {globalsettings} advancedoptions true at the RE command prompt enabled the startup settings from the hard disk to work - safe mode etc still did not work from there

so at the bottom, it said F10 for more options which gave 1 option to press 1 for Recovery

(I thinK) computer restarted and the ordinary Startup settings appeared again (as the bcdedit... was programed to), so as I thought this was not the real deal, I clicked Continue to Windows 10 - this brought up the proper menu to Reset This PC

Which worked

I might have missed out a piece of the jigsaw puzzle, but in effect, that was what happened

Thanks
