"Could not find this item...Verify item location and try again"

Hello. I'm not sure I'm posting in the right forum but I have Windows Vista. I'm trying to delete a folder of mp3s on my desktop but when I try to, I keep getting this error message: "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:///... Verify the item's location and try again."

I try several times to delete it, move it to the recycle bin, try to delete individual mp3s in the folder but I keep getting the error message. I can still play the mp3s in the folder fine but I can't get rid of it. Do you have any suggestions on how to delete the folder? Thank you!!

No problem.

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click on Start and type cmd in the Start Search box. Cmd.exe will appear at the top of the Menu. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Copy and paste the following command in the Code box after the prompt > and hit Enter.

dir /a "%userprofile%\Desktop\Converge-No Heroes" > c:\find.txt & start notepad c:\find.txt

Your drive will be scanned and when finished, Notepad will pop up with some information. Copy and paste it in this thread.

You could try the freebie Unlocker that can kill any process that may be using the file, force delete it (right away or reboot).

Hi joeg79. That report tells me that Windows cant see the folder on your Desktop. Rightclick on it and choose Properties. What does it say next to Location?

AnnMarie, what I was able to was search for the folder using the start>search function and delete all the mp3s inside the folder from the search box. But the folder still remains undeletable on my desktop and there does remain 1 "file" in the folder. I put it in quotes because it's not an mp3, it's just a file titled the name of a song and size is 0 bytes. Not sure what to make of that. I've run all my antivirus programs, spyware programs, nothing coming up.

Ok, can you run the below command from an elevated command prompt please (same as before) and post the result.

dir /a /s "C:\converge*.*" > c:\find1.txt & start notepad c:\find1.txt

Ok. Download The Avenger from here to your Desktop and unzip it.

Open notepad and copy and paste all the text inside the codebox below into it. Save the file as AvScript.txt

Code:
Folders to delete:
C:\Users\Mike\Desktop\Converge - No Heroes
Start The Avenger by opening the Avenger folder and doubleclicking on Avenger.exe. Click on Load Script from File (Folder Icon) in the top lefthand corner and open AvScript.txt. Your script should appear in the dialogue box.

Click on the Execute button and click Yes when you are asked if you are sure you want to execute this script. Click Yes when you are asked if you want to reboot now. The Avenger will restart your computer (on some occasions, The Avenger may restart your computer twice)

When you have rebooted, a logfile will open that has recorded all the actions that The Avenger performed (this log file is saved to C:\avenger.txt). The deleted folder will be backed up and saved to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

Once your computer has rebooted, please post back the contents of C:\avenger.txt and tell me if the folder has gone.

Didn't mean to bump up an old thread, but I'm currently confronted with this exact same issue. I carefully performed the steps outlined here provided by AnnMarie. I was right on track all the way, but after applying the Avenger step and rebooting the computer, no log file was saved and the problem folder was still there. Hope to get cybertechhelp from the experts here...
