File sharing problem

I am trying to transfer a huge work folder (50+gb) from my HP Elite Book running Win10 to my newer Gateway also with Win10 by way of sharing over my home network.

I tried everything in the Shared Experience center and in properties including turning off password control, but the button for Share folder won't go on in properties on the Elite Book and while that folder shows up on the Gateway, I am called upon to see administrator with no hint about what the problem is or how to fix it.

Needless to say, there is no administrator to see. It is just me.

A caveat is that I bought both of them used, primarily because used computers have bulk sale versions of Office for free. I could buy a USB storage place for that, but it is slow and I really don't want to go out unnecessarily in the crisis.

What did I do wrong? Thanks.

Is you network set to PRIVATE

1. Are you using WiFi on both? If so make sure it is private on both.
  • On the right side of the taskbar, select the Wi-Fi network icon.
  • Under the name of the Wi-Fi network that you’re connected to, select Properties.
  • Under Network profile, select Public or Private.

2. Turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing, and turn off password protected sharing.
• Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet , and on the right side, select Sharing options.
  • Under Private, select Turn on Network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing.
  • Under All Networks, select Turn off password protected sharing.

3. Make sharing services start automatically.
  • Press the Windows logo key + R.
  • In the Run dialog box, type services.msc, and then select OK.
  • Right-click each of the following services, select Properties, if they're not running, select Start, and next to Startup type, select Automatic:
  • Function Discovery Provider Host
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host

Two questions:

1. Does "Automatic (Delayed start)" work just as well as "Automatic" in the Sharing Services? I don't want to slow down my initial bootup time.

2. Do you have to have a homegroup set up in order to share files and folders on the home network computers? Or does the process you outlinged above take care of that? (If this question is a separate topic, let me know and I'll start a new thread.)

Thanks.
