The hobbit won't run

Ok I got a new graphics card, which is a nvidia Geforce 2 MX/MX 400 64 meg card a good upgrade from onboard nvidia vanta 16 meg.I downloaded the driver, then started gaming my favorite game wouldn't run (The Hobbit). The hobbit requires, a pentium 1.4 ghz, 128 meg of ram, and a geforce 2 32 meg. it used to run on the vanta card but now a window pops up saying my card doesn't have 3D draw support. But it is enable on the nvidia software/driver. Any ideas?
my computer specs: 761.0 meg of ram, Pentium 3 1.2 ghz., 350 watt power supply, sound blaster audio, 60 gig hard drive, sony 52x cd-r drive, geforce 2 64 meg.

*edit*
I tried to go back to my onboard graphics and now it won't let me run it on that either, and i tried reinstalling the game. I also play Rome:total war and that is a 3D draw game but yet it still runs.

100% DirectX 8.1 or higher compatible 3D video card with 32 MB VRAM
that was from the amazon listing of "The Hobbit"
the Geforce 2 Series are DirectX 7 Compatible, they can run on a system using Direct X 9 but it wont run the DirectX 8 and 9 features only Direct X 7
thats probably why its not running properly

should of went the extra few $ for a Geforce 4, i presume you got it off ebay or similar

I have direct x 9.0. My freind upgraded his card and gave me the Geforce2 card, so I had no choice. *edit I forgot to mention, I have direct X 6 or 7 on age of empires would that work? and I tested 3D draw using direct x 9 and it had an "Illegal operation".

if the game requires 100% direct 8.x compatibility then your video card wont support it
i think anything under the Geforce 2, maybe even the Geforce 3 Series

GF2 is dx7 compatible, sure it runs with dx9 installed, doesnt mean it can provide dx 9 features
GF3 is DX8 compatible, maybe it would work, but your game requires dx 8.1
Geforce 4MX440 can be bought 2nd hand off ebay for like $20-30 AUD

smelly fish indeed
well ask yoru friend if you can sell the Geforce 2, then get a geforce 4 or something, if your getting a gefroce 4 try getting the Ti Series, they cost more but perform better or you could jsut go get Geforce FX ot Geforce 6/7/8

note
the GFFX5200 apparently performs worst than an GF4MX440 or so ive heard
