Can't detect hard drive during Windows 7 installation

Hello CTH members and Staff,

Hopefully I can solve my problem here.

I've recently finished building my custom desktop and now I'm trying to install the OS. Problem I'm having is that the installation cannot detect any hard drives. On the progress bar, it is stuck on "Collecting Information" .

Specs are :

Western Digital 640GB 7200rpm Caviar black WD6401AALS
ep45-ud3p Gigabyte Motherboard
Intel E8400 3.0 ghz
4 GB Ram

Thank you if you provide help . I greatly appreciate it!

Gary

I had the same problem, it was either the cd rom or the disk. I cleaned both and got it to finish....you can give it a try. Do you have a cd player cleaning disk......they work, I once had a dvd player that quit working ....kept giving me error messages, I was about to throw it out. I put the cleaning disk in and then tried a dvd and it played.

When I installed my Win7 Ultimate, it also went through the same thing. I ended up cancelling the installation a few times. It will eventually go through the whole procedure. Just make sure to delete the temp files that were created from previous unsuccessful Win7 installs.

Hello Gary055. I had the same thing until I plugged the external hdd directly into the computer itself.
