Cannot Update Windows

I am sorry to ask for help but I have been at this all day and I am at my wits end. I have googled until my googler has fallen off and tried 50 million things.

Here is the deal, woke up to windows wanting to install an update ok -
Click on the little box update installed -
System rebooted with no sound -

Went to MS and clicked on express install I got this error:
[Error number: 0x80070424]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

Click on custom I got the same error -

All righty then thus starts my hours of googling and trying different things on my own after I searched and searched MS -

Did exactly to a T what MS said to do and what happens?
Have to reinstall windows on my system (better then a reformat)...

OK so I have sound again but still cannot update get the same blasted error.

Can someone please help me fix this?

Thank You
Frustrated and Aggravated

This is a copy from notepad,
i saved to file, from about two years ago,
have found it usefull some times ,
the link still works,
worth a go,

This error 0x80070424 means "ERROR SERVICE DOES NOT EXIST". That is, BITS services does not exists in some way.

Usually it is enough to do this: Start > Run and type in

regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll

and hit ENTER key. If this does not solve the issue:

Start > Run and type in this lines. Hit ENTER key after each one:

net stop wuauserv

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll

regsvr32.exe wups.dll

regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll

regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll

regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll

regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll

regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll

net start wuauserv

Reboot Windows and go to Windows Update.
