Do I delete the dll from windows system and then just replace it by copy paste or does the new dll have to be installed? And how would I do it?
Thanks

If you still have the program DVD, just reinstall over ther top of itself. Otherwise, you would delete the DLL and cut and paste the new one where the old one was.

Also may want to try running SCANDISK

Have you tried reinstalling Print Shop Pro 5 from the program DVD, and if not available, would you consider replacing the faulty MFC42.dll by deleting it and pasting the new one in the system folder, or in the program's installation directory?

It may pay to read messages prior to yours in order to avoid repeating information
