Desktop computer running slow

Okay, so I have a big problem with my desktop

It's taking like 10 minutes to start up, and is running programs and just in general really slowly

It is beyond me what the problem is, since I have the exact same programs and stuff installed on my laptop, and my laptop starts up in less than a minute and runs the programs fine

Also, my PC has started blue screening and freezing today randomly for seemingly no reason but the slowness was happening before that

I do have a LOT of programs installed on both my desktop and laptop,
and I have stopped a good number of programs from starting up when I turn on my computer and such

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I'm assuming I'm going to need to re-install windows again, though I'm getting really tired of doing that, because it takes forever to re-install all my programs and games, and I just don't have the time for that anymore.

Here's an image of the specs of my laptop & pc:

Welcome to CTH

Running slow can be cause by:

1. Programs running in the background
2. Hard Disc needs defragging
3. Malware
4. Corrupt system files

You have maybe eliminated one possible cause by removing some programs running in the background, but there could be others. We can check if you have malware/spyware in our other forum, but before we move this over there lets make sure the hard drive and operating system is OK.

Let's check the system files first;

1. Start | search type command now right click on the results command and click "Run as administrator", click Yes if User Account Control window appears

2. Now type sfc /scannow (note: a space between sfc and /scannow.

Restart your computer if sfc /scannow did actually repair any files

Once that is done, then defrag your drive, if you haven't done it recently.

1. Start→All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→Disk Defragmenter

2. Click button Analyze disk

Defrag if required.

If either of the above does not help post and we will move this over to the Malware Removal forum.

Okay, well I'm running the scan disk now.

Although my harddrive is only about a month old..

And while I have like nearly 200 programs installed,

and about 1.7 of the 2 terabytes full on my hard drive

does the harddrive get fragmented that easily/quickly??

If you have one hard drive, Windows needs about 10-15% free space to operate efficiently. So your getting close

When you stopped programs from running did you use MSCONFIG to do that?

MSCONFIG is the easiest way to stop programs from running when Windows starts:

Start > search

type in msconfig, double click then go to the Start-Up TAB
