Simple sidebar for shortcuts in windows 7

Hi
All I am looking for is a Method or a small utillity that will put a sidebar on my desktop. I don't want a gadget bar, just a bar I can add shortcuts to.
More for convieniance and to tidy my desktop up. I have a quick launch bar at the bottom but that has no room left for programes I use a lot or want to access quickly.
I've tried a couple but they turned out to be gadget bars.

Any Help ??
Thanks.

Another option:
  1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder.
  2. A folder will appear on the desktop. This is the folder you will use as the shortcut toolbar.
  3. Type a name for the folder (for example, Shortcuts), and then press ENTER.
  4. Drag the folder to the very left, right, or top edge of the screen, and then release it.
  5. The folder will now look like a toolbar.
  6. Drag the shortcuts to the toolbar that you want to appear there.
  7. The shortcuts will appear on the toolbar.
