I think I have found the cause. I had installed Video Downloader Ultimate last month. When I uninstalled it, the problem disappeared. As a reason for uninstalling, I described the problem. I received the following email message from Video Downloader Ultimate:
Hi, Video Downloader Ultimate (VDU) uses a proxy server. This can conflict with other secure programs or connections. It will be activated only, if VDU is running. If you close VDU, the proxy will be deactivated and the default settings restored again. This is needed to scan the websites for the video URLs. I would suggest, that you run VDU only in cases if you want to download videos. In all other cases, like working or gaming, close VDU. |

Thank you. I now open VDU only when required. Earlier, it was on all the time.
