Exactly what happens when you try to play a DVD?

Do you have the software to play dvds? Like WinDVD or Power DVD?

Also, complete system specs would be helpful.

Thanks for your response.

Could you please specify what further details you need re: specs.

From what i can work out - i think we have Quicktime movie player - i assumed that since the guy who built the computer installed a DVD drive that he also installed the corresponding software to enable these to be played - NO?

Basically when i insert a dvd - nothing happens - it wont open using the movie player programme.

OK here are my system specs:

Jetway P4X400DB motherboard, P4 1.6, Leadtek WinFast A180B T128 AGP video card, 512 mb DDR Ram, VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller, NEC 1100A DVD+R/RW, Sony CDRW 48x-24x-48x, 60 gig Maxtor HD, 80 gig Maxtor HD, Netgear FA310TX nic, Win98SE and W2000 Pro dual boot.

Basically a list of everything in your computer and the Operating system.

Quicktime is used for viewing streaming video online. You have to have a software program for viewing DVD movies.

There are some free ones out there but I've never used any of them.

There is a list here if you want to check it out.

I use WinDVD which is great, but it came with my DVD drive so I don't know how much it actually costs. Many users also like PowerDVD. It's not a free one either though.
