unsecured.... people may be able to see your stuff...

hello
using unsecured wifi in cafes... it says (when connecting) people may be able to see what you are sending.

how risky is it?
can a user check to see who is looking?
can someone else in the cafe look/hack other users in the cafe.. if that way inclined

appreciate a little taster on this subject
thanks
(typing this in a cafe!)

cheers

Anything Wireless,
Keyboards, Mouses, Printers, CellPhones, Other Wireless and WiFi Enabled Devices.

Will always have their cons, WiFi Hackers is one of them, although Cracker is the proper term.

There are a couple of ways to keep yourself protected while surfing outside your Home Wireless Network:

Turn Off Ad Hoc Mode:

http://www.iopus.com/ipig

www.practicallynetworked.com
www.grc.com (The Best Security Expert: Steve Gibson, his network is wired by the way.)

What Do WiFi Hackers Use To Spy?
WireShark.org Is One Free And Legal Software Used. (it really should be used to secure things.)

just make sure you have a good firewall and you will be okay. however, the router at the hotspot may be keeping logs of your activities so you always should be wary of what you do online.

Thanks DJoe. There is some good info to consider on encription etc. It seems fair logic to guard. It is mainly passwords that I am thinking of guarding against.

Thanks renegade600. Do these logs just list pages visited online or can they actually log what was typed by the visiting user... ie passwords etc?

the logs I have seen shows ip address date and time. as far as passwords, I doubt they will show up - they dont keep track of keystrokes.

Hey, no problem.

First Computer Crackers, now Air Crackers, what next, eh.

Yes, wireless is cool and less wires, but the truth is, the more wired you are, the better.

But, for times, when life must be wireless or mobile. Tell those Air Crackers who owns your computer. YOU DO!
