Over sensitive touch pad mouse on 6year old Dell

I wonder if there is a setting to reduce its sensitivity, I have adjusted all settings it has, so thought a registry adjustment might solve this.

One big issue is several windows open you press shutdown on the upper one it will then close the next or all so it needs a delay of some sort.

You scan the cursor over several links with a light touch it then opens all it passed over.

There seems to be no "gap" in its reactions just acts.
