No Internet on fresh XP install
I have a new install of XP but I can't get the internet working. The internet is working fine on my linux box so I know it is something to do with XP.
Can anybody tell me what I need to do to get my internet working? Thanks, Joe |

You most likely need to install drivers for your motherboard or network card. I have had the same problem when installing Win XP. If your ethernet cable plugs into the motherboard, use a program like CPU-Z to find the brand and model of your motherboard and go to their website for drivers. Or if you have a network card you may have to open the case and look at it to find its brand and model and do the same.

I had the computer in the shop to get a hardware problem fixed and the shop owner reloaded windows and he had the internet working through my network card. He didnt get is working through my motherboard because the website was down that he needed to get the drivers from.
Since he had it working through the network card shouldnt it still work for me now? I will also try to find the drivers and see if I can get it to work through the motherboard. Thanks for any advice, Joe |

Quick note about my sepup. Yes I have broadband. We have one computer that has XP on it and a router connected to it. I run a cord from my room to the router.
All cables are plugged in correctly Automatically detect settings is checked. No computer icons appear in the taskbar at all. When I go into network connections, it shows... Lan or High-Speed Internet, it has a little computer icon that says next to it... 1394 Connection Connected 1394 Net Adapter If I click on repair I get this error... Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed. Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot Proceed. Any ideas on what to do from hear? Thanks again, JoeC |

Well I have the driver now to try and get the internet working through the motherboard. It is a .awd file, does that sound right?
I have it on the computer now but how do I go about installing it so that is will work with the mother board? Thanks, Joe |
