My first home computer (not counting my Commodore 64 ) was a Hitachi 286 with MS-Dos 4.01. The computer with custom upgrades that included an 80meg hard drive and a dot matrix printer (24pin!) cost about $2,000. I still have both in a box somewhere. I remember being really excited when Dos 6 was released.

My first exposure to Windows was at work when the IT guy used me for a guinea pig and installed Windows on my computer. I was lost for a while. Soooo confusing and complex when Dos was so easy.

Windows 95 was the very first I owned.

Mac was the very first used, but not owned.

I have used Win3.1, Mac-Like Dos and Mac, but, never owned them.

About 11years Windows experience since than and started using Linux during Ubuntu's Feisty Fawn release.

Is a typewriter considered a computer?
thats the first comptuter I used before '95

Win 95 on a Dell 'top of the range' PC which had a humungous 8gig hard-drive - so huge I had to partition it into 4 !!!!! Cost about £3,500 back in 1998 (faints)

Never could work out why I couldnt watch DVDVD's on such a beast!

Apple II+ was our first computer purchased back in 1980 (just before the first IBM was released) - believe the one below is just the Apple II; added a second 140K floppy ($500) and a SLOW modem (another $500); 64K RAM IIRC - total cost after the add-ons was > $3000 (in the dollars of the day!) - but we loved that machine & used it for nearly 6 yrs (the longest used computer in our home).

The OSes I used was Windows 3.1 back in early 1990s, then Windows 95 in 1995 or 1996, then Windows 98 in 1998-9 when I was at elementary school, then Windows XP on the high school computers I even tried Windows 2000. The first computer at home was DOS, then in the turn of the millennium, I had Windows 98 on the family computer, then in mid 2000s, My family got the Windows XP computer. I got my laptop with Windows Vista in 2007. My next computer? a netbook with Windows XP or Windows 7 starter or a laptop with Windows 7.
