Converting MS Word 6 word processor files to wordpad

Hi! I hope someone can help me. I have several hundred document files that were created on wordpad on an older computer. When I bought my present computer[3 months ago] I converted them to MS Word 6 word processor files.
As I did not like the Word 6 word processor[I only had a 3 month trial membership anyway], I uninstalled the Word 6 word processor and tried to get the files to open once again with wordpad. No luck. Now I'm stumped. I cannot figure out how to get these files to open with wordpad. I downloaded MS Office Word Viewer and a converter from MS's website. that I thought would convert the files to word viewer but no luck there either. I need to open these files badly. Can anyone help.
