Problems installing Restore data from DVD (moved from Vista)

Gateway P-6869FX

Specs

Sorry, I didn't know which section to post this in, so move it as you see necessary.

Short Story:

When I try to re-install the restore data (drivers/operating system) on my hard drive using my restore discs it freezes like this.

Long Story:

I bought it refurbished from tigerdirect and it came set up as if it were a complete different model. All the drivers were wrong and even the restore disk was incorrect. So I installed the correct drivers from support.gateway just so I could get it working at least. I called Tigerdirect and they said I need to call gateway and gateway said I should call Tigerdirect... Eventually I got a guy who gets me a new set of restore discs. So, it took a while for the discs to arrive and when they did I was lazy and didn't install them right away. Then later I get the BDoD with a generic driver problem code. So, I pop in the new discs and they freeze like ... This.

So, I call up gateway and they said I needed to talk to level 2 support, but they were not open on sundays and that I need to call back tomorrow. So, I did... and that was the day my warranty expired.

Anyways, after trying to fix my problem myself I figured that the restore discs must be corrupt. So I bought some new restore discs. I finally got them today, and I get the same problem where they freeze with that empty dialog box.

Hi Kagetora. This is either an issue with your Recovery CD's or a hardware issue however you will need to be absolutely certain you have the right disks before investigating the second possibility. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with that.

Well, I used to different sets of recovery discs. I bought the latest set online using my model number and serial number. So, I know its not the recovery discs.

What would you suggest to troubleshoot what is causing the hardware issue?

Troubleshooting hardware issues is not my area of expertise Kagetora. I'll move your topic to our Hardware Forum for more help. Good luck.
