Laptop will not power down
I am trying to resolve problem with Sony Vaio laptop that seems to be working fine apart from the fact that in normal mode it will not power down without the power button being depressed for 5 secs or so - therefore restarts will not work.
In safe mode it behaves fine - in diag start up mode (or selective start with no options selected) it hangs in the power off sequence until the button is pressed. The event viewer logs are empty and I have the same number of processes - 12 - running in both safe and normal mode. Can you point me into areas to explore ? thanks Mike |

update
Ran CHKDSK and it resolved one 'orphaned file' but problem still exists - I have one entry in Dev Mgr table which shows yellow- unknown device - it appers to be related to Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC what ever that is - could this cause the problem?
thanks |

Intel 82801GBM is your controller hub
Yellow exclamation means there is a problem with your device Have a look in your device status? to see if there is a microsoft code. |

update
Having reinstalled 16 drivers I have now got a clean device manager - i think it was a network adapter device driver - but still the laptop will not power down in 'normal mode' - can you suggest more steps please?
Laptop will power down correctly in SAFE mode and SAFE mode with Networking but not in diagnostic mode "load basic services and drivers only" - how can i identify what the difference is please ? thanks Last edited by mikesin; September 10th, 2008 at 06:09 PM. Reason: update and question |

shankargowri: Once again you should learn to read the posts. This was solved 9 days ago or can you only reply to threads that are more than 6 days old and have already either been fixed or have already tried the suggestions you made after the fact? Murray |
