Howdy:

Your Vista cd is probably an OEM Recovery/Restore type cd. It won't work on any system other than the one it was shipped with and, in fact, it would be illegal to even install Vista using that cd on any other computer.

What is the make of the system that is giving you problems and what did it have for an operating system? Where is that install cd?

Murray

you changed out the motherboard? if you change out the motherboard you can no longer use the os that came with the system if it is oem. OEM operating systems can never be transfered to another motherboard, whether it is the computer it came with or a different computer. The only exception is if the motherboard went bad and then it must be replaced by the same motherboard (if available)

The oem software that comes with a computer only has drivers for that specific system. That could be why you are getting the error message of missing files, you are using it on a different motherboard.

tell exactly what os disk are you using - are you using a recovery/restore? or an actual os disk?
