Burning DVD

G'day Folk's.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and it so far it is terrific.
I have a problem with 'Brasero Disk Burner'
I have a 640mb AVI video file that I want to burn to DVD and watch on a video player.
Brasero tells me that the 4.7gb dvd I am using is not big enough.

If I go back to windows vista and use Nero v.8. Everything is OK and it burns the dvd with no problems at all, and the dvd runs with good video quality on my TV screen.

I want to stay in Ubuntu. So, can anybody please give me some advise about doing it in ubuntu?

Try another one from your package manager.. there are numerous to chose from. Personally I don't have a preference, usually If I have problems burning media I will just chose another.

Search for:

tovid GUI
QDVD Author
ManDVD
Lemon Rip *
Kb3 (not sure if it handles DVDs)
DVD Rip


.....and there are many more.

I believe this is a bug with brasero. Try Gnomebaker or K3B (my personal favorite).

GnomeBaker burns beautifully. Unless the video is too big for the DVD disk.

Is there any way to 'convert > reduce > burn'?

I know this reduces picture quality, but (5.1 gb down to 4.7 gb) or (800 mb down to 700 mb), does not make it unwatchable.
It also makes life much cheaper on disks.

check out Devede. It should be in your repositories. You can reduce the size of any vid/movie down by reducing the quality etc. Works great.
