a slow computer

hi
i have 2 computers one is xp and the other windows 7 64 bits and i want to delete old files and make them faster espically the xp computer..what options
would do this?thanks.

Backup important information, reformat the computer, and maybe go inside the computer and clean all the dust out of the heatsinks and fans?
