can i use I386 to repair xp?
windows xp home, sp2, pentium 3
i'm having major problems with my pc and i'd like to know if it's possible to use the I386 folder in my computer to either repair or reinstall xp, i was not given the installation cd or a restore cd when i bought it a couple years ago, but i do have a copy of the I386 folder. if it is possible to use the I386 folder to repair windows do i simply double click the Winnt32.exe file and follow the directions? and if it's not possible how do i install linux in my pc, simply download the iso insert the disk into the drive and follow the directions? |

There's good information about reinstalling XP from the I386 folder, as well as a number of useful switches, on this page.
I got a little over 300,000 hits on Google using "install xp i386 folder" as the search term. |

i too have googled install xp i386 folder but some folks are saying it's not possible without the original xp cd or it's not a good idea. that's why i wanted to find out from people in the know, and speaking from personal experience this forum has some knowledgeable people that have helped me and my buddies in the past.
