Question Case Selection

I have a Dell Demension 4700 PC tall tower. I am looking for a better way to cool my PC by switching to a better case. I was wondering what information I need to know and find out about to make the switch. I don't know what case will fit my mother board or if my mother board is universal with tall cases? I was also trying to figure out about my CPU. I have a Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz processor and want to change it out for a dual core? I am not sure about the pins and what matches what? I hope someone can answer my question.

that site might help you in your selection. anyways, all boards, as far as i have encountered, have six holes. and most of the casing manufacturers have these provisioned. regardless of the cpu (intel or amd) they should provide you with six of those mounting holes and a set of screws.

one piece of advise. when mounting the board to the casing, put a masking tape or any non conductive tape to the hole before you screw the board to the case.

Would you be able to tell me about my processor too? It is a Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz HT processor and I would like to go to a pentium D or maybe even a Extreme. I would like to switch to AMD some day, but for now I want to stick with Intel.

for motherboard, processors and any hardware reviews, benchmarks and updates, you can visit anandtech, here or tomshardware here.

be wary of tomshardware reviews as theyre paid infomercials from the hardware companies, use wikipedia, input core processors and get ur pin size for ur chip, this will give u an indication of what chips u can use

if ur going to get a new motherboard and chip, i like the msi diamond (2x pci-e slots instead of 1 [@$290aud] and a amd dual core am2 chip

How exactly do I figure out my pin size? I pulled the processor out of the mother board and didn't know what to look at on it. It had some numbers on it but nothing I could work off of.

Hello

If you look at the cpu chip, you have the 2.0 ghz/256/400/1.75V,
next there're #'s that look like this SL5TL Costa Rica (this a 2.0ghz Intel CPU sample), post those #'s here. I will give a looky see.

Or this:
Go here and type in your service tag #

This explains what and where the location of service tag # is.
service tag #
